"We can let the circumstances of our lives harden us so that we become increasingly resentful and afraid or we can let them soften us and make us kinder. We always have the choice."

Flow into Fall 2012 with Yoga for Health and Wellbeing

Yoga for Stress Reduction

“Stress” has become a common factor that most of us accept and live with in the western world.

Increased levels of stress can lead to increased levels of cortisol (responsible for our “fight or

flight” response) and,in the long term, several unpleasant physical, emotional, and mental

conditions.

Yoga for Stress Reduction will use the principles of Yoga and Hakomi (Body-Centred

Psychotherapy) to help you re-establish and nurture a connection with your authentic self.

Using yoga asana (postures),pranayama (breathing techniques),meditation, sound,

visualization, and guided relaxation, this class will help you to locate an oasis of peace that is

always available within you. This practice will help you to develop your capacity to slow down,to

be still and to embrace silence.

Benefits of Yoga for Stress Reduction may include increased mental focus and clarity, increased

motivation and energy, increased capacity to experience joy and laughter, and an increased

sense of equanimity.

SPRING SUMMER 2010

Om namah shivaya….greetings! This summer promises to be busy with yoga classes continuing to grow and evolve. This past year has been busy with growing my businesses and finding peace and tranquility in the mountains over the winter,I enjoyed a lot of nordic skiing this Winter and hope to get on my mountain bike very soon. And of course, with several races on the schedule triathlon training is in full swing!

I have been enjoying several classes through the Yoga Therapy Program at Mount Royal University. Being able to absorb some of the wisdom from great teachers such as Nischala Joy Devi,Robin Rothenberg and Suzi Hately-Aldous has been a gift. My hope is that I can share some of this wisdom and experience with my students.

Classes at the Montgomery Chiropractic Plus Clinic continue to grow. This year, due to popular demand,we have decided to run a Summer Yoga Class through June and July,on Thursday evenings.  Please see the community class schedule for more information and how to register.

In addition,I hope to offer Karma Yoga in the Park this summer, and am currently looking for a charitable organization to which we can dedicate this class.

Also, stay tuned for Teen Yoga with Cool Beats (DJ included) at Leela Spa and Yoga Studio (formerly Danu Health Centre) in Bridgeland! Classes will be Monday evenings starting in June.
Be well.

Spring/Summer 2009

Om Namah Shivaya,

Greetings. Hoping this finds you all well and savouring the warmth of our Spring sunshine in Calgary.

I am so pleased to continue to offer my community Hatha Yoga and Meditation classes in a beautiful new space at Montgomery Chiropractic Plus.  Please see the link to community classes for more information. Classes start May 11th and 14th.

This summer I am excited to offer, for the third year running,Yoga in the Park. If you haven’t practiced yoga outdoors it is quite a unique opportunity.  To practice yoga asana in the natural world is truly a beautiful and magical experience! An opportunity to connect with all living beings, including the mosquitoes:)

On Thursday evenings in July and August I will be offering Karma Yoga at Prince’s Island Park. Karma yoga is about selfless service or praticing for others. 50% of our class proceeds will go to L’Arche Calgary,a local non-profit organization committed to helping create an open, inclusive and compassionate Canadian society where every person is valued and can make a contribution. Please see www.larchecalgary.org or www.larche.ca for more information. Come out and practice vrksasana (tree pose) amongst the trees of Prince’s Island Park!

Teen yoga (ages 12-16) will be offered again this summer at Montgomery Chiropractic Plus. Please see the Teen Yoga link for more information or to register early for this class.

As well as teaching yoga this Spring,I find myself busy training for Ironman Canada,a triathlon in August 2009 in Penticton,B.C. At times it has been a struggle to find balance between work,my yoga/meditation practice and Ironman training (which feels like a full-time job some days!)  A good friend recently reminded me that swimming, biking and running can be my yoga practice, depending on how I engage with my training. Certainly my hamstrings are not getting any longer however, the more I practice these sports in a mindful way the better I feel. The more I pay attention to my body and what it’s telling me,the more connected to spirit I feel.

Other plans for the summer include some shorter triathlons in B.C. and Alberta, some much anticipated time at the Yasodhara Ashram near Nelson B.C.,and some vacation time on the west coast with family and friends.

Exciting news for the Fall includes starting the Yoga Therapy Program through Mount Royal College. I hope this will continue to help me combine my therapy practice with my yoga skills and to offer a unique form of healing to clients of all ages, facing a wide range of emotional, physical and spiritual challenges.  For more information on my therapy practice please contact me at Citta Psychological Services,403 264 6886 ext. 5.

Get outside and enjoy this Spring weather we have all been waiting for!

Be well,

Namaste.
